Natasha Baker and AICCU Present an Overview of Legislation Impacting Student Affairs and Policies

Natasha Baker, Managing Attorney at Novus Law Firm, is excited to partner with the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU) to present an Overview of Legislation Impacting Student Affairs and Policies.

Gov. Newsom has through today, September 30, to sign or veto all legislation passed by the legislature. Several bills currently pending his action have ramifications for university practices and policies, including:

  • AB 1669 (Pacheco), which requires colleges and universities to implement specified written policies pertaining to leave of absences related to mental health by the beginning of the 2027-28 academic year.
  • AB 1784 (Pellerin), which expands California’s Equity in Higher Education Act to add more protected characteristics, extend protections to undergraduates, and strengthen rules against discrimination related to pregnancy, marital status, and familial status. The policies specified in the legislation go into effect September 1, 2027.
  • AB 2212 (Bauer-Kahan), which updates the Equity in Higher Education Act by adding new definitions and revising existing ones related to sexual harassment and sexual exploitation, with the changes taking effect on August 1, 2027.

AICCU, in partnership with Natasha Baker, invites you to join us on Wednesday, October 7 at 11 a.m. PT for an overview and discussion of these bills (pending enactment) as you begin to consider future implementation.
